Learning to Dance is Just the Beginning
Its all about using your Dance Skills with confidence – on the Dance Floor.
We start by teaching social partner dance in our unique way, a way that has people feeling confident as leaders and followers getting up on the dance floor and enjoying themselves, as quickly as possible. People are ready for this in their own time but we are always mindful of the importance of encouragement and support to enable people to make the transition from lesson to dance floor.
Dance has always been the basis for fun and is a culturally significant social activity. In our current busy world, where people no longer need to communicate face to face, dance offers a tremendously important way of bringing people together – in Firefly’s case in a friendly, welcoming, club like atmosphere.
We offer a safe environment with no other expectations than friendship and a common interest. Your first social dance steps can be taken at events we organise at Firefly and then we’ll encourage you to get out and enjoy what else Sydney has to offer. That is, of course, in addition to continuing dancing at Firefly Dance Club events!
What Social Events Does Firefly Organise?
Firefly Fridays
The Firefly Friday Social Night is held monthly during the year. Each Firefly Friday is themed and we follow the theme through with decorations, music, food, etc. There’s a beginners class at the start of the evening, so you can bring any friends that may be new to dancing or just have a warm up. Then there’s all your favourite dance styles with lots of willing partners in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is welcome. Check our Photo Gallery to see some of our past events.
The Annual Ball
Firefly Dance Club organises a Ball in October each year at an outside venue. Students and teachers prepare Showcases for months in advance to wow guests and friends.We have a live band and, of course, lots of dancing. Dress is elegant or in theme. Watch the Events Section on the website or our Newsletter for details. Tickets are available from June each year.
Dinner/Dance/Demo
The DDD is held at least once a year. Students work on a chosen dance to show how well they are going in the time they have been dancing. Competition is hot for favourite dance styles! Guests and “fan clubs” are invited to watch the demos and join us for dinner and dancing at an external venue. Details are posted on the Events Section.
Floorcraft, Musicality & Supervised Practice Class
Each Wednesday at 8.00pm Firefly Dance Club runs a Practice Class. This is an opportunity to practice the steps and technique you know in the core dances with a teacher on hand to answer questions, challenge you, help with musicality and floorcraft. Custom Groups
Get a group of friends together and come for a custom group class each week or fortnight – a great way to get together and very social. Talk to us about a suitable time when you can have a studio to yourselves and the styles of dance you would like to cover. Then go for dinner afterwards! Read more about Custom Group Classes.
