Look Stylish on the Wedding Dance Floor

Firefly teachers really care about helping you look your best for your wedding dance and we can help you make your dance a special and memorable experience. We can prepare you for that first elegant Waltz, romantic Rumba or smooth Two Step.

While being a long term wedding tradition, in the past few years the bridal dance has taken on more significance, with much greater expectations being placed on the bride and groom to mark the start of their new life together with a beautiful dance rather than just shuffle around the dance floor for a couple of minutes. When it’s all over, your guests will never remember the colour of the napkins or the taste of the cake – but they will talk forever about the way you gazed into each others eyes while dancing that first dance together.

This re-emphasis on the wedding dance is a result of a number of factors:

• Wedding fashion;
• More complex and larger weddings;
• Ideas being shared on YouTube;
• Other people’s wedding dances, and especially wanting to have that special moment on a special day and capture it for all time on film.

Despite this, it is often left to the last minute, maybe because:

• One partner is anxious about the dance.
• You don’t realise you can learn to dance in one lesson.
• You think that we can fit them in at the last minute – well sometimes we can, but not always!

As most couples have at least one of them who has never danced Ballroom or Latin before, we at Firefly provide the following suggestion:

• Come in early (at least six months in advance) and learn to dance a number of styles through normal private or group classes. This gives you many dance styles to impress others and enjoy at your Reception and makes the choice of a wedding dance much easier.
• Come in 2 – 3 months in advance of the wedding to allow you enough time to just focus on the wedding dance.

Either way, you will find you have an enormous amount of fun and enjoy spending quality time together. While all other aspects of the wedding can be very stressful and focus just on the one day, the preparation of the wedding dance relieves the other stresses and leaves you with a recreation to continue to enjoy after the wedding. Many couples are very nervous on arrival at Firefly but after just one lesson go out smiling and relaxed.  We really want to make sure you have a great experience and as mentioned many couples return after the wedding and continue to enjoy dancing together for many years.

Whatever you do, please don’t leave it to the last moment as your life gets really busy with last minute wedding arrangements.

So why should you come to Firefly Dance Club for your wedding dance lessons?

• We overcome your nerves and make you confident about your dance preparation.
• We go at your pace of learning and comfort level.
• We make learning to dance and preparing for the big day great fun and a memorable experience for both of you, teaching you how to dance rather than just a dance.
• We will take advantage of any dance experience you may have (however, no previous dance training is necessary).

We work with you to select a dance to meet your special needs:

• Each wedding dance prepared at Firefly is special and personalised – whether you want something simple and traditional, or something more funky with changes in song or dance style.
• We will adapt a dance style to go with your song. We suggest you choose a couple of songs you both love, with different rhythms and pace so you have a choice of dance styles. Bring these along to your complimentary consultation.
• We take into account the limitations of the dance floor at your venue.

When teaching your selected dance we will mark out the space you have in your venue to ensure you learn to manage in that space. We will use approximately half the lessons to give you new dance material, teach you to lead and follow and create a fabulous beginning  and ending for your dance. The remainder will be spent polishing your performance so you feel really confident in front of your guests. We put no pressure on you to buy a particular package or include dances other than the wedding dance, unless you want to.

We will work within your budget as we understand the pressures of time and money leading up to your wedding. The price for wedding lessons is no more expensive than regular lessons – so many things seem to be more expensive at the mere mention of a wedding!
