8 Week Group Classes are a great way to learn to dance and meet new people. There are many benefits that come from choosing Firefly Dance Club as the place to dance for group classes:

Our small class sizes of no more than 20 people give more individual attention.
You can come alone, with friends or a partner.
Each week builds on what you have already learned by adding new patterns.
Social dance skills such as frame and connection, as well as how to put the patterns together on the dance floor, are fully covered – not just where you put your feet!
Frequent review and practice means you retain what you are learning giving increasing confidence in using your new skills.
You build your knowledge about different dance styles without getting confused.
Frequent rotation means you get to meet others in the group and, importantly, dancing with a range of partners has been shown to help you learn faster.

However, Firefly’s social dance style ensures you are not too “up close and personal” with people you do not yet know well. It’s a friendly way and not as intimidating as some approaches to Latin & Ballroom dancing.

We do our best to have a gender balanced class, so booking in advance is essential to ensure your place.

Our programs start at Beginner I levels – suitable for absolute beginners or those who have danced at some time in the past and need a refresher – and then build gradually through 8 week classes to more advanced levels.

The flexible structure of our programs and the training of our teachers means you can enjoy group classes alone or mixed with private lessons. This way you build your social dance skills with consistency and a flexibility to suit your life style.

Last, but by no means least, our professional Firefly staff make sure all our classes are friendly and supportive for all dancers and great fun!!

How does the Group Class Program work at Firefly Dance Club?

Our group classes run for 8 weeks. Each class is 45 minutes. An 8 week class allows us to build your knowledge of the dance style in a structured way and involves a commitment to attending all classes. Each class involves:

A well organized curriculum so each time Firefly runs a class it follows a set structure.
Reviewing the material introduced the previous week to ensure you have not forgotten it.
Introduction of new dance patterns.
Consolidation of those patterns into previous patterns and practise dancing them together.
Preview of the following week.

Our aim is for you to be able to confidently use what you are learning, so we add sufficient technique for it to look and feel good.

Once you have started a Beginner I class, the Beginner II immediately following will run in the same time slot so you do not need to rearrange your life to continue dancing.

While each group class runs for 8 weeks, we start new classes every 4 weeks. This means if you just miss the start of a class, there will be something else you can start without having to wait for another 8 weeks. However, you can always attend the casual Dance Sampler class while you wait!

What 8 Week Group Classes are available at Firefly Dance Club?

Partner Dancing for Beginners Level I and Salsa Level I are our most popular group classes. While each class runs for 8 weeks, we start a new class, either Salsa or Latin & Ballroom every 4 weeks. They are usually followed by Beginner II classes and in the case of Salsa, by Intermediate level classes. After the Partner Dancing for Beginners Level II class, students are ready to join the Bronze program.

Every 4 weeks at least one other group class will start. This may be just one dance style or a mixture of two or more styles.

West Coast Swing is a popular class that we run quite frequently – we are one of the few places in Sydney where you can learn this style.
Mambo – the original “Dirty Dance” – and Samba and East Coast Swing are often on the timetable.
Mixtures such as Two Step and Hustle and the Party Mix (coming up to the party season) are also popular choices.

Couple – $220
10% off if booked 2 weeks in advance
20% off for Firefly Dance Club Full Members (except Ballroom & Latin Beginner I & II which is included in Full Membership)

Firefly Dance Club also offers Casual Group Classes for those whose lifestyle or work requirements make it difficult to commit to 8 weeks at the same time each week.
